BANGKOK HOSTEL REVIEW

2:42 PM

You want to go travelling to Bangkok but in a budget? Good, let me share you our experience in choosing where good and affordable hostel you should stay. Well, our first consideration was the hostel must be safe. Means that the hostel must be near the public transportation and tourist attraction. You think I might be considering Khaosan Rd area, but no, I didn't find any suitable hostel at that time, and the price also too high. Second, the hostel must be clean and at least had 3 stars label or good review in 7 points above. Las but not least, the price is not more than $10 ( 135K IDR - 2016 ). We stay in Bangkok for 6 days and 5 night and we prefer to stay in 3 different hostel to explore more of Bangkok city. So here are our hostel we used to stay in Bangkok city :

1. G9 Hostel Bangkok

Considering that we arrived in Bangkok at around 8pm local time, we prefer to stay in the easiest and reachable place in Mo Chit area, 16km from Don Mueang Airport. It's actually my mistake, me and BF were plan to visit Chatuchak market in our second day ( Friday ) of our trip, but we then found out that there's no market operating on Friday. Fail. But still, G9 hostel was the easiest to reach from Don Mueang Airport by riding A1 Bus. Just mention Mo Chit station to the driver assistant, She/He will kindly inform you when and where will you need to stop.

Since it was our first day of staying in Bangkok, we thought that it might be good to stay in the private room to unpack our baggage first, so me and BF was decided to stay in G9 Hostel's Standard King Bed room for 2 days. We got good price at that time we booked from Agoda. There's also dorm room type here, reasonable price. We are happy to stay here, the staff is so kind, wifi speed is so good and they provide clean water and Bangkok maps for free. Find out best place for breakfast near the hostel, worth to try, but avoid looking for dinner after 9pm, it was so quite and there's no food stall open.

Why stay here:
  • Chatuchak Weekend Market (1.5km)
  • Mo Chit MRT Station and BTS ( 800m )
  • Don Mueang Airport riding A1 Bus from Mo chit station, vice versa ( 16,6km )
1032/26-27 Phaholyotin Rd. Soi 18/1, Chatuchak, Bangkok, Thailand 10900

2. Glur Bangkok Hostel

Move on to the third day of Bangkok trip, we stay here in Glur Bangkok hostel. We could say that this is the best hostel so far compared among the three hostel we've been tried. And We would absolutely stay here again whenever we coming back to Bangkok again. The staff is so kind, and helpful. Whenever you need a guide to go somewhere, you might ask the staff for a guidance, since they are a local and speak english fluently. We choose to stay at the dorm type room, Lower Double Bunk Bed in Mixed Dorm booked in Traveloka. The price was so damn cheap, $12 ( 160K IDR  - 2016 ) for 2 person in one bed. This is our first time sleeping in a dorm with bunch of stranger, but it was fun. We met a lot of tourist around the world just in a room consist of 8 Beds, from Canada, US, South Korea, China, Paris and well, Indonesia.

Reaching out public transport was so easy, there's Sathorn Pier, Asiatique boat, and Saphan Taksin BTS near the hostel, so damn close just around 100m. Finding breakfast outside the hostel was also easy, especially find some dinner, it's heaven of good food at night. But always remember that above 10pm, the local usually start to close their stall. If you want to do some culinary explore, I suggest you to stay in Glur Bangkok, there's so many choices.

Why stay here:
  • Glur Bangkok hostel has a 24h cafe bar in the first floor, manage to stop by here and try Bangkok's beer, the cafe lounge is really comfortable.
  • Self serve breakfast in the second floor. Get free oat meal, milk, bread and coffee.
  • Saphan Taksin BTS, Asiatique Boat and Sathorn Pier just 2 minutes by walk ( 101m )
  • Bangrak Food and Fashion Bazaar everyday start from 6pm to 9pm in front of the hostel.
  • Robinson Mall, and attractive food street, 1 minutes by walk ( 50m )
Number 45, Soi Charoen Krung 50 Alley Krung Road, Bangrak, Bangkok, Thailand, 10500.

3. Kamin Bird Hostel
Source : Agoda
Last hostel, the worst location ever! Well, this hostel was located in Ratchadaphisek area. For a tourist, this place could be so tricky to find out. There were a lot of Bus number pass by this area, but it took a lot of time to find out what bus to go somewhere. This hostel was in the middle of Thailand Culture Centre MRT and Huai Khwang MRT. It's actually easy to find public transportation, you just need some extra effort.

First time I decided to stay here in our last day in Bangkok, I was considering that the location was near Don Mueang Airport, okay, in the maps it looks easy to reach. But in fact, I just find out that to go to the airport using public transportation, we need to go to Chatuchak MRT from Thailand Cultural Centre MRT, then ride A1 Bus from Mo chit to Don Mueang Airport. If you had a lot of time before your flight, you might take this option. We already late that time, the only option was took a taxi. I just realise that Kamin Bird is far away from the Don Mueang airport, 20km is too far.

About the hostel it self, it's cheap, all I can say is you got what you pay. The hostel was manage by a young married local couple, no other staff, just two of them. I think that it might be just me and my BF who stay at the hostel that time. LOL so weird and scary, but everything is good since we just stay here a night. We got a lot of things to rearrange in our baggage so we choose private room with shared bathroom booked in Agoda. Bathroom for male and female were separated. There is one food stall near the hostel for breakfast, Food and Fashion Bazaar is 500m from the hostel for your culinary desire at night.

Why stay here:
  • Thailand Cultural Centre MRT and Huai Khwang MRT ( 800m )
  • Big C Extra Ratchadaphisek ( 650m )
  • Food and Fashion Bazaar near the Big C Extra start from 6pm to 9pm ( 700m )
490/4 Nathong 6 Ratchada 7 Dindaeng, Ratchadaphisek, Bangkok, Thailand 10400
